On Monday August 5, 2019 our FLL team #23866, finished building their game piece to place on their game board. They also discusses their core values for this year. Their core values this year are:
Discovery
Innovation
Impact
Inclusion
Teamwork
Fun
Cooperation
Gracious Professionalism
Kids to the Work
The kids worked very hard today and are very excited for the rest of the season.
Team work side by side with some of the Woodside Bible Church members and help out a 92 year old Algonac resident with filling and placing sandbags around her house to prevent further flood damage.
Team was planning to hit the road tomorrow morning, but because of inclement weather in the Flint/Saginaw area, we decided to go ahead and drive there tonight.
If anybody is driving to Saginaw in the next few days, please contact Coach Seb, Coach Jared or Coach Nicole. There are a few students that would love to join and they only need a ride up there.
We are in the Ford Division. You can watch us live on Twitch and if we played in the playoff on Saturday afternoon, we will be on ESPN3 live.
Follow us on Facebook all weekend. We will have a thread and post all update on our group page.
Team will be driving “Boomer” in the DTE booth and shoot T-Shirts. It is imperative that at any given time, the operator is well aware of their surroundings and who is by the canon. This is important and we do not want to have any incident. DTE is very excited to use this canon to shoot t-shirt and as far as i know, we are the only team there that will be doing this!
Remember, we are all representing the swamp and while we are a small town, we are respectful, act with integrity and use gracious professionalism with everything we do. PERIOD. If anyone is not following these simple rules, you will not be allowed to participate in the event.
Qualification rounds will be going until Friday around dinner time. Then the alliance selection will be started. If we are selected or end up being an alliance captain, we will be playing in the elimination round on Saturday. In the event that we are not, we will still attend the elimination rounds and the award ceremonies.
Good luck to Shelby Woods our Dean List nominee and Coach Nicole, our Woodie Flowers nominee. These are great achievements and no matter what the outcome, we are very proud to have you on our team!
Let’s do this, this is our chance to show what we learned over the last 4 years. Many teams are looking at us and it should be a great event for all involve… Just remember, work hard, be courteous, use gracious professionalism and have fun in the process!

Extra Assignments — > Being a programmer is not easy! But once you get started the right way, you will find this to be a very rewarding experience. Our goal is to work as a team to discover the java code we will need to accomplish specific tasks. Remember, the building team will be physically putting things together, but you guys will be making this all work together.
Start watching this tutorial playlist. This is short and easy to follow. If you want to be a programmer, you need to learn the basic!!! This will get us started in the right directions with the java terminology and language.

The team has started putting together the presentation for their project. We will continue to polish that this week. Core Values Team Leads will be working with the team to compile information for the Core Values poster. Cameron and Noah are very close to completing two missions. Thomas is working diligently on an attachment for the lander mission. We need to work on our robot design a bit more this week to stabilize our sensors. We have two weeks until the team presents their project to the School Board and Sponsors and Four weeks to get as many missions polished as possible. Please come focused and ready to work.

The groups spent time practicing programming their WeDo robot Milo. They are using block programming to determine the length and speed Milo will travel as well as learning how to reverse direction, pause, and repeat their program. Project:
Have your team identify a human physical or social problem faced during long
duration space exploration within our Sun’s solar system and propose a
solution.
The
team narrowed their focus to two topics faced during long duration space
exploration. Oxygen, and Anxiety. These are still very broad topics. The plan
was to research problems and solutions in these two areas that currently exist.
Then brainstorm ways to improve upon an existing solution or a completely
innovative solution.
Monday
each team member will share what they found in their Field Research from the
last meeting.
What
are three interesting facts you learned about the problem?
Are
there any solutions that currently exist for this problem and why aren’t they
working well enough?
What
are three possible ways to improve the existing solutions? What ideas do you
have for completely new solutions to the problem?
Monday
we will also be continuing Robot build and Mission Planning. Wednesday the team
will choose their research project topic.
Last
week was FLL Jr’s first official meeting. We talked about core values and the
kids wrote and drew a picture spotlighting the core value that means the most
to them.
The
kids were divided into three teams and chose their team names.
Next
week, the teams will discuss what they need to bring to the moon. They will
also be building their spacecraft.
Saturday was a great day and game was finally revealed. It look like it will be pretty exciting! Love that we are reusing past game elements!
